Chopda Pujan

Significance of Chopda Pujan

Chopda Pujan, also known as Muhurat Puja or Sharda Pujan, is a significant Hindu ritual performed during the festival of Diwali, primarily by the business community. It is usually observed on Diwali evening, especially in Gujarat and Maharashtra, where traders worship their account books (called Chopda in Gujarati) to invoke blessings for a prosperous financial year ahead. Devotees clean and decorate their offices and shops, often with rangoli and diyas, to welcome Goddess Lakshmi, the deity of wealth. New account books are sanctified and opened during the puja, symbolizing the beginning of new ventures and financial clarity. Mantras, including the chanting of “Shree” and “Om,” are recited to seek divine guidance and success. Some families also worship Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, alongside Goddess Lakshmi. The ritual is both spiritual and symbolic, blending devotion with business aspirations. Sweets are distributed, and elders bless the younger generation for prosperity. Chopda Pujan reflects the deep integration of faith, tradition, and commerce in Indian culture.
