The Festival of Diwali is known as the festival of lights, occurring in the Hindu Lunar month of Kartika (which generally falls between the second half of October and first half of November). People celebrate the triumph of good, light and knowledge over evil, darkness and ignorance. Diwali also celebrates a good year of harvesting and honors the Goddess of Wealth for the prosperity and wellbeing of the community, the nation and the whole universe.
GSBC organizes a Diwali celebration where community members can meet and ring in the Hindu New Year. A puja will be performed followed by a sermon by a seer or a Pundit (priest) explaining the basic tenets of Hinduism.
2017 Diwali Celebration takes place Saturday, November 4 at Riverside Signature Hall 13030 76 Avenue, Surrey, BC. Proceeds of this event will benefit the GSBC Scholarship Fund.
